Where are the Umpqua Hot Springs?

Address

NF-3401, Idleyld Park, OR

Cost

$5 per vehicle/day.

Are the Umpqua Hot Springs open?

After a few years of closure, the hot springs are open again! All of our guests are incredibly excited that they can lounge in the warm water, while also having a chance to explore the Umpqua Hot Springs Hike!

When is the best time to visit the Umpqua Hot Springs?

While you can visit the Umpqua Hot Springs throughout the year, the best time to visit is usually when it isn’t too hot or too cold.

That means September to early November, or March to May are some of the best times to plunge in these peppery pools. However, this also means you’ll find the most traffic around these times.

The sweltering summer sun may feel good to you. Alternatively, the near-boiling water can complement the freezing temperatures quite well. If you hike it in the winter, be aware that you’ll have to walk through some snow. Come whenever you want! It all comes down to your personal taste.

The view is amazing no matter the time of year!

Is Umpqua Hot Springs good for families?

Probably not. While warm hot springs seem like they would be fun for all ages, many people bathe naked in the springs. Nudity is not uncommon, and as some reviewers have said: “Be careful who you take with you, or it may be awkward.”

Umpqua Hot Springs Trailhead

Distance: 0.8 miles (when the gate is locked, you need to park two miles from the actual trailhead.)

Difficulty: Moderate

Elevation Gain: 305 feet

This hike is definitely on the more difficult side, but it’s very short which makes it perfect for a cool down after a longer and more strenuous hike.

Is the trail dog-friendly?

The trail is dog-friendly so long as your furry friend is on a leash. For your pet’s safety, it isn’t recommended for dogs to get in the hot springs. They’ll have to relax near the pools.

Hot Springs Reviews

Here’s what some of the Umpqua Hot Spring’s visitors have to say about their experiences:

“My husband and I sat in our pool for about an hour and we couldn't believe how beautiful this experience was. Definitely worth the drive.”

  • Vapors25, TripAdvisor

“Lovely, relaxing warm water puddles that are big enough for a couple of people to sit in and relax. There are several of them, enough for maybe 20 people or so.”

  • Jo Creyf, Google Reviews

“Always a delight to relax in nature’s hot tubs while taking in breathtaking nature scapes!! The springs are the hottest at the top and get cooler the lower they go. As a natural wonder, people are often ‘au natural’ in varying degrees, so don’t be surprised to see a little skin. Well worth visiting!”
